5 Chic Ways to Decorate with Mirrors to Elevate Your Space
Mirror mirror on the wall… Is your home the chicest of all?
A mirror is more than just something to look at to make sure there’s nothing in our teeth or that we look drop dead gorgeous before a big date. They can elevate your living space to a whole other level, especially since there are so many different style options and different ways they can be used.
If you want to make your home feel brighter, more spacious, and chic, we have five ways you can decorate with mirrors.
1. Take your home’s best feature and double it
Every homeowner has that special feature that they absolutely love in their home. And, you know what they say, you can never have too much of a good thing! So with that in mind, place a mirror across from a feature that you love.
2. Place a mirror across from a sunny window
For some reason, a room that’s bathed in sunlight always seems to lift our spirits, don’t you think? Mirrors can take what little sunlight that’s trickling into a dark room and amplify it so that the room feels brighter. In terms of window treatments, avoid heavy fabrics or dark colors. Instead, opt for lightweight curtains in soft neutrals.
When the sun goes down, you can achieve a similar effect by flanking the mirror with a pair of wall sconces. For a romantic (but fire-hazard-free) touch, you can opt for flameless pillar candles.
3. Stack mirrors horizontally to add a touch of pizazz
Mirrors are a dime a dozen (not really, but you can find them at the dollar store!) and what’s better than just one mirror? Using multiple mirrors to create something a little unexpected. For example, you know those long slender mirrors that are usually hung on the back of a bedroom or closet door? Instead of hanging them vertically, hang three horizontally, leaving two inches in between each one. It’ll brighten up a small space and it can also act as artwork.
4. Create a focal point using mirrors
One of the easiest ways to add depth and visual interest to any room is to add a mirror. With that said, size matters. For example, if you’re going to hang a mirror over the sofa, that mirror should be about the same size. Now it’s understandable that you might balk at the price of a mirror of that size, but when you compare it to a framed piece of art or print, it can be just as costly, if not more so.
5. Add drama to any space with an oversized mirror
Oversized mirrors with an ornate frame can be used as a sculptural element simply by leaning it against a wall. We love vintage mirrors because they’re so detailed and add a bit of old world glam to any decor. Of course you can certainly achieve a similar grandiose feel to your space with something a little more contemporary as well!
Decorating with mirrors makes any space look amazing
Decorating your home with mirrors is a fantastic way to highlight the best features of your home without breaking the bank. A well-placed mirror can brighten dark rooms when placed in front of a window and they can even be used as a focal point in place of a painting or sculpture.
All in all, it doesn’t matter what your decor style is, you can rest assured that you can find a mirror to compliment your overall design!
